Arising from its 17th plenary meeting in Abuja yesterday, the Police Service Commission (PSC) rejected the request for special promotion for some senior police officers.
The commission also approved the dismissal of six others and granted the promotion of 113 others, including four Commissioners of Police (CPs).
The newly promoted Deputy Commissioners of Police to CPs who appeared before the panel and answered questions on the change agenda are, Posi Ajunwa, Akinsanmi Francis Ayo, Kenneth Ebrimson and Akpoebi Egbuson, while the dismissed officers include a Superintendent of Police (SP), two Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP) and three Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs).
According to a statement by the Head of Publicity and Press in the commission Ikechukwu Ani, the approval for the dismissal of the six officers was given after due consideration for the offences they were alleged to have committed.
They were dismissed “for various offences ranging from impersonation, forgery, insubordination, negligence and disobedience to lawful order. The dismissals were part of the decisions taken by the Commission on 55 disciplinary cases brought before it.”
The two-day meeting was chaired by the Chairman of the commission, Dr. Mike Mbama Okiro, a retired Inspector General of Police.
While citing inappropriate presentation of the motive for recommending special promotion for some officers, the PSC rejected the reference for two officers and reserved that of nine others.
