Bayern Munich are set to provide competition for City in attempts to sign Edinson Cavani

Bayern Munich are set to provide competition for City in attempts to sign Edinson Cavani, according to today’s press reports.

Cavani, who has scored 25 goals in 27 appearances for Napoli, is now a familiar name in transfer speculation for Blues fans. But the Daily Express reports that the German giants are providing Pep Guardiola with a large transfer kitty when he arrives in the summer.

“The Citizens are looking to make a couple of big-name signings this summer and Cavani is near the top of their wish-list.“But affluent Bayern Munich are also vying for his signature, as they look to open the Pep Guardiola era in some style,” writes the paper’s Charles Perrin. The same paper also reports that Barcelona are interested in another City target, Roma defender Marqinhos.Perrin notes: “The Citizens are believed to be planning a major clear-out in the summer, with Joleon Lescott among those who could leave the Etihad.

“Mancini is looking to strengthen a defence that was exposed by Southampton last weekend as they slumped to a surprise 3-1 defeat.

“Marquinhos is flattered though by the interest of Barcelona, as he told Italian football site CalcioMercato: ‘I like the interest of Barca yes, but now I have to think about it.’” We’ll be the first to bring you any official transfer news on mcfc.co.uk!Away from possible summer transfers, Leeds manager Neil Warnock has been talking up the possibility of a cup upset when his team visit the Etihad on Sunday, writes the Independent’s Mark Walker.

“Warnock's side, who have struggled to mount a serious promotion challenge, have saved their best form for the cup competitions this season and have already beaten Southampton and Everton in the Capital One Cup and latterly Tottenham in the FA Cup to set up an intriguing fifth round clash at the Etihad Stadium.

"'According to the bookies we're at 33-2 in a two-horse race,’ said the 64-year-old."'But the FA Cup is such isn't it? It's such a great competition. It would be a major upset if we went there and won, but we're looking forward to it.

''I don't think many people, when the team sheets came out, gave us much chance against Tottenham or Everton, but it's a little bit more difficult with it being at the Etihad as well.

"'They'll be right up for it and I would imagine they'll want to try and win the tie early doors so they can relax and enjoy themselves.

But City will definitely be up for the challenge themselves! Read what Carlos Tevez had to say and watch Roberto Mancini’s press conference here.
