Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United's Dutch forward Robin van Persie
After weeks of mouth-watering build up, it’s finally here. Manchester United against Real Madrid – arguably the tie of the Champions League last 16 draw.United manager Sir Alex Ferguson says it’s a shame the two clubs can’t meet in the final while Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has called it ‘the match the world is waiting for’. With sub-plots and drama aplenty, it is difficult to disagree.

Ronaldo v Rooney, Benzema v Van Persie and that’s just on the pitch, with the dugout also seeing the intriguing battle between Ferguson and ‘the Special One’ Mourinho. The Portuguese has denied he wants to take Ferguson’s job at United when he retires, but he is set for a dramatic return to English football in the near future. Elsewhere, for Fergie this is a real test of his developing United side. Kings-in-waiting of the Premier League, but can they reign in Europe? Like the great man said, tonight will be the ‘acid test’.

Predicted teams:

Manchester United: De Gea; Rafael, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra; Kagawa, Carrick, Jones, Valencia; Rooney, Van Persie.

Real Madrid: Lopez; Arbeloa, Ramos, Pepe, Coentrao; Alonso, Khedira, Ozil; Ronaldo, Benzema, Di Maria
