Chelsea Star Dismisses Transfer Rumor

Petr Cech

Chelsea goalkeeper, Petr Cech has dismissed the speculation that he may be linked with a move to North London rivals, Arsenal.Reports earlier today have suggested that Cech is on a six man shortlist of Gunners boss Arsene Wenger as they look to spend big to solve their goalkeeping dilemma following Wojciech Szczesny’s loss of form.Cech told isport.blesk.cz, “I know nothing, nobody has contacted me and, to be honest, I can’t even imagine it,” according to Sky Sports.

Scouts
However, The Daily Mail reported that Cech is being watched ‘extensively’ by Arsenal scouts and that Chelsea are looking at Thibaut Courtois, currently on loan from Chelsea at Atletico Madrid, to replace Cech next season.Courtois has now had two successful loan spells at Atletico Madrid and it is reported there is a growing feeling within Chelsea that he is the long term replacement for Cech.  If that is correct, Arsenal are positioning themselves to take advantage of any fallout from Cech.
However, Cech is still only 30 and, although he hasn’t been in outstanding form this season, he is still a key part of the team.  Courtois is only 20 and there is a lot of risk in putting a young goalkeeper in the number one slot at the highest level, as Arsenal have found out.

Clean sheets
Lukasz Fabianski has replaced Szczesny for the last two Arsenal games and kept two clean sheets away from home, which will put him in favour with Arsene Wenger.Szczesny’s current contract runs until June 2015 although there have been rumours Arsenal may want to move him on in the summer.  Petr Cech’s contract expires in the summer of 2016, which, if he stays until the end, would have seen him serve the West London club for 12 years.
