Manchester United vow to make Sunderland suffer after title taunts
MANCHESTER UNITED are determined to make the Sunderland fans pay for their taunts on the final day of last season.
Manchester United make their first return to the Stadium of Light on Saturday since being denied the title by Sergio Aguero’s last-gasp goal for Manchester City, just seconds after Sir Alex Ferguson’s team thought they had won the championship by beating the Mackems.Goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard says United players have not forgotten how Sunderland followers revelled in their agony that day, and will be eager to deepen relegation fears for them.He said: “When you have an experience like that and if you feel something is against you, like the supporters in Sunderland, hopefully that is something we can remember to use it in a positive way at the weekend.
We will go up there determined to win
“We will go up there determined to win.”
Wayne
Rooney, who scored United’s winner back in May, is already on record as
saying the trip was one of the fixtures he ringed at the start of the
season, illustrating his intention to settle a score with Sunderland
followers. But that will not be the only problem facing the home side.
Leading
goalscorer Steven Fletcher and midfielder Lee Cattermole have been
ruled out for the remainder of the season with ankle and knee-ligament
damage respectively – for a team who are without a victory from seven
matches.
