The
authorities of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti have splashed N25m on
its students and some members of staff as a reward for their diligence,
honesty and hard work.
The founder of the university, Chief Afe
Babalola, who was assisted by former Minister of Information, Prof.
Dora Akunyili, Commissioner for Environment in Ekiti State, Dr. Eniola
Ajayi and the Vice-Chancellor of ABUAD, Prof. Sidi Osho, presented
cheques to the beneficiaries at a dinner held on Thursday in Ado Ekiti.The university doled out N.5m each to
students whose Cumulative Grade Point Average stand at 5.0 while those
who have CGPA of between 4.5 and 4.9 were given between 75,000.00 and
N100,000.00.
Some indigent students were given N.4m
each while the university also rewarded most disciplined student, honest
and diligent lecturers. Members of non-teaching staff were also given
between N50,000.00 and N100,000.00.A total number of 256 students and 20
members of staff received various amounts of money while the university
promised to do more to encourage diligence, scholarship and good
character.The founder, who reiterated that his aim
of establishing the university was to transform the education sector in
the country, stated that ABUAD would become the best varsity in Nigeria
in the next two years.
He also said that the university was working hard to become one of the best citadels of learning in the next five years.Akunyili said that she was shocked at
the facilities she saw at ABUAD, adding that she saw such facilities
only in a university in South Korea.She expressed delight at the
institution, which she said, was one of those that would reform the
education sector in the country.
