Very soon we will sleep with our eyes closed – Anenhi

ABUJA- CHAIRMAN, Board of Trustees, BoT of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Tony Anenih said yesterday that with Adamu Muazu as National Chairman of PDP, there was now hope in the party and team work in the National Working Committee, just he stressed that leaders, stakeholders, members of PDP can now have their eyes closed.

Speaking yesterday when he led members of BoT on a solidarity visit to Muazu, told him that his predecessor, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur criticised him and other members of BoT for going round the country as part of moves to reconcile aggrieved members of the party, a similar thing Muazu was presently doing.

Anenih who noted that since he (Mu’azu) became the Chairman has given Nigerians and PDP hope said, “From what we have seen in the last few weeks since your election, I think Nigerians have hope now, I believe PDP has hope. I also want to thank you for being a team player. Today we have a National Working Committee as a team and no longer as a group.”

According to him, since Mu’azu came on board he has moved almost round the 36 states, something
that has never happened before and which the former Chairman criticised them when they embarked on such move, apparently referring to Bamanga Tukur, adding, “Even when others and members of the BoT did that sometime in May last year, there were many criticisms by your predecessor. And when they say that your performance is already speaking for you, the performance of the NWC is also speaking for members.

“Having said that, this year is an election year, we have to develop and continue what you have started on the reconciliation efforts. Everyone counts. And when I see you moving from place to place, getting people back, I feel very soon we can sleep with our two eyes closed,” he said.

Responding, PDP National Chairman, Adamu Mu’azu who noted that he became the party chairman at a time when morale of members was very low, stressed that he came at a time when the party has lost ground, at a time when competition was apparently going to be very interesting and at a time when PDP has the opposition developing the skill of poaching.

Muazu said, “We have taken over this party at a time when morale of members is actually very low. At a time when we have lost ground, at a time when competition is apparently going to be very interesting. At a time when we have the opposition developing the skill of poaching.

“But I tell you all hopes are not lost, we are doing everything with our colleagues, in consultation with you our leaders and with prayers and support, not only will we regain lost ground, we will strengthen and get back to our proper leadership position in PDP.”

Mu’azu who described the BoT made up of 117 members as the pillar of the nation, said, “I once told a friend of mine in a BoT meeting in Abuja that if a bomb as we are sitting now, comes up and everyone dies, Nigeria will be in a stand still for one year. Because everybody that is anybody is in this BoT.”

The PDP National Chairman who stressed that due consultation with regard to members, especially elders has been lacking in the party, said that the shortcoming will be restored, adding, “I assure you that what has been lacking is due consultation with regard to members, especially elders, this will be restored. The job is tough and these are tough times.”

Present with Anenih were BoT Secretary, Senator Walid Jubrin; former Senate Presidents, Adolphus Wabara, Ken Nnamani; Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekeremadu; former Acting National Chairman, Dr. Bello Haliru Mohammed; Former Acting National Secretary, Dr. Musa Babayo ; Hajia Halima Alfa; former Rivers State Governor, Dr. Peter Odili; Ahmed Mohammed Madaki.
