Ayoze Pérez Signs For United
Newcastle United’s use of the phrase “we just couldn’t get them over the line” when referring to failed transfer bids has become a bit of a joke for many United fans as the club has failed to sign any permanent players in the period since January 2013.
“The line” and the use of it as an analogy has been the butt of many jokes as Tyneside humour has come into play amongst fans frustrated by the apparent lack of ambition shown by the current United owner.
Magpie fans have scoured the internet looking for “The Line” or clues as to it’s whereabouts.
Images of “The Line” have been shown on Twitter and Facebook in an attempt to help identify it.
Search parties have allegedly been formed to go out and search for “The Line” as the Toon Army have tried to do their bit to help the club focus on some much needed new signings.
Well, that’s all a thing of the past now.
The line has finally been found. What’s even more significant is that United have somehow managed to get a player over it!
So say Hola! to Ayoze Perez, a 20 year old spanish forward signed from Tenerife.
The poor lad is already being dubbed a “wonderkid” in the Christiano Ronaldo mould. Nothing like putting pressure on him eh?
Personally, I think if he was the next Ronaldo there is now way he would currently be flat hunting on Tyneside!
It’s quite poignant that he arrives from Tenerife at a time when quite a few geordie fans will be heading in the other direction for our summer holidays.
Whether he will be part of the United first team squad or “one for the future” and farmed out to Rotherham or St Mirren is anybody’s guess.
Lets hope he storms into the first team and scores a bagful of goals this season. If he does, of course, his time here could be short-lived!
In his first (translated) interview, Ayoze had this to say:
“I’m very happy to be here to start this new adventure. I’m very eager for it to begin and I’m very pleased to play for this magnificent Club. Any football player would be interested in playing for such a Club and I will earn my position to get in the first team.”
“There’s been many clubs interested in me, but this one was the most serious one, and the one that has treated me the best and valued me the most. The negotiation has been very good and that helps when you want to choose which club to go to.”
“All those clubs are important but I have to look after my interests and I think at Newcastle I can do great things, can grow there and help the club grow.”
“Any football player would be interested in playing for such a club and playing in the Premier league for Newcastle.”
As for the line? We have been told by a club insider that it’s safely locked up in a secret location at the “cathedral on the hill”!
Lets hope it’s brought out and used a few times more before the start of next season.
