Man Utd representatives ARRIVE in Portugal in bid to beat Chelsea to William Carvalho

MANCHESTER UNITED representatives have arrived in Portugal as they bid to beat Chelsea to Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho.

Earlier today we reported that Chelsea were lining up a bid to trump United's interest in Carvalho.

United are not willing to meet Sporting's £30m asking price for Carvalho, or meet the player's buy-out clause.

But they remain optimistic that a deal can be struck and are willing to offer more than the £11m-and-a-player-on-loan that Chelsea have put on the table.

Indeed, reports in Portugal suggest United believe they have the upper hand when it comes to the negotiations having worked with Sporting over the transfers of Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani in the past
