Position Summary:
The Mechanical Engineer will work within a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and scientists in the development of handheld portable scientific instruments for industrial and safety/security applications. This will include detailed design, analysis and build of complex miniature systems from initial concept through development, test and release to production. Position requires a great deal of creativity and initiative while working in a fast paced and collaborative team environment.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Use Solidworks, support development of complex mechanical components and assemblies using a variety of manufacturing technologies such as machined, molded, cast, formed, sheet metal.
  • Develop proficiency in the creation of engineering drawings per ANSI Y14.5M
  • Develop proficiency in application of part tolerances and dimensioning schemes.
  • Create part models and assemblies from concept sketches.
  • Participate in the build and test of prototype instruments.
  • Participate in definition phase and design reviews of new product development.
  • Engage with operations group to ensure cost, DFM, DFA objectives are optimally satisfied.
  • Support efforts to develop parts and documents for hard-tooled production.
  • Support transition of new products to operations group.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • BSME from an ABET certified college
  • Proficient with Solidworks, Certified Solidworks Associate preferred
  • Proficient in the use of MS Word, Excel
  • Excellent verbal and written skills with strong cognitive ability.
  • Technical creativity and a solid work ethic.
No professional experience is required, COOP in product development preferred
