Further information
The MR Research Physicist in the Division of Translational Imaging Research (TIR) of the Department of Radiological Sciences will be an integral part of a multi-disciplinary research team (clinicians, radiologists, MR physicists) that focuses on the development and clinical application of quantitative MRI methods for pediatric hematological and/or oncological applications. Currently, our team (PI: Claudia Hillenbrand) focuses on MRI of transfusional iron overload, and functional body imaging (i.e., whole body and localized DWI in solid tumors, quantitation of renal function by MRI etc). The MR Research Physicist will work on pulse program development, integration of MRI methods into clinical patient protocols, protocol data acquisition, image analysis and interpretation.
The Department of Radiological Sciences has four whole-body Siemens MR scanners (two 1.5TAvanto, one 3T Trio and one 3T Skyra system) with adequate research time during regular working hours. The Trio system will be upgraded to Prisma in fall 2014. In addition, a 7T Bruker Clinscan scanner is available for preclinical development. A Hitachi proton beam facility is currently under construction and the Department has plans to acquire a 3T PET/MRI and a 7T whole body MRI within the next years. The TIR division has extensive collaborations within the Department and with clinical partners from the Departments of Hematology, Oncology, Epidemiology, Surgery, and PIs from basic sciences at St. Jude. This offers an exciting and multi-disciplinary research environment and facilitates a quick translation of promising MR developments into clinical studies. (MJP)
