Leicester remain confident of signing Kelechi Iheanacho despite a frustrating delay, reports manchesterevening news.co.uk. A deal to take the Manchester City striker to the King Power Stadium was expected to be announced by now, but that has not happened.
Manchester City Manager, Pep Guardiola explained earlier this month that Iheanacho had not gone with the rest of the squad to the United States in order to complete a move away from the club.
Nearly two weeks on and as the players prepare to head back to Manchester, the Nigerian striker has still not secured his exit although it seems inevitable.
“I think Kelechi leaves us in favour of Leicester,” said Guardiola. “I think so, but I do not want to say anything wrong either. We will see. If that does not happen, he will be part of the group.”
Leicester boss, Craig Shakespeare was still hopeful of completing the transfer when asked about Iheanacho.
“I’m hoping so, but I am like every other manager at the moment. I think we all find it frustrating but it is the current market,” he said.
“You saw with the Harry Maguire one, we got that done quick – when he is in the door we can announce it. At the moment, of course, we are interested in players as most of the Premier League is, but you can see that clubs won’t really talk about it until they are over the line,” he said.
Iheanacho’s departure in a move that could reach £25m would be the most significant outgoing this summer.
Guardiola is trying to offload a number of players to leave space for the squad he wants to work with but the Blues have struggled to find buyers for unwanted stars such as Samir Nasri, Joe Hart and Eliaquim Mangala.
