The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Bayelsa says it will soon inaugurate ‘Operation show vehicle papers and driving licence’ to clampdown on motorists using fake documents.
The state’s Sector commander, Mr Ikechukwu Igwe, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yenagoa on Monday that the operation would be carried out in close collaboration with the state government.
Igwe added that the operation would provide an opportunity for FRSC to check violators of other traffic rules and regulations.
“Yes, the programme when flagged-off will focus on rigorous fight against the use of fake drivers’ licence and number plate.
“I believe by Tuesday, we shall be meeting with the state government for a way forward and ensure that we get rid of fake licences among drivers, especially the tricycles operators,“ he said.
He warned that FRSC would no longer take it lightly with any motorist caught with fake driving permit.
Igwe, therefore, advised motorists to desist from obtaining fake licences from unauthorised sources.
He also advised them to always go to any of the corps’ offices across the country to acquire genuine driving licences.
He urged motorists to always abide by traffic rules and regulations in the state.
“The issue of traffic violation is worrisome.
“The way people drive, especially when they get to a junction or roundabout is worrisome.
“We must be careful while driving and support FRSC in ensuring safer roads in the country,’’ he said.
