‘Downrange’: We always know the evil, not the devil

Director of The Midnight Meat Train, Ryûhei Kitamura, pumps a pool of blood on the screen in this creative action film entitled Downrange.
The film tells the story of six college students who get stranded in the middle of nowhere during a cross-country excursion. When one of their tires blows out on the desolate stretch of the country road, they get out to fix the flat, but quickly discover that this was no accident. The tire was shot out. With their vehicle incapacitated, the group is pinned down and mercilessly attacked by an unseen assailant as they desperately attempt to find a way to escape.
In this dark but artistic film, everyone dies, and there may be just no trace of how this happens. But only the viewer can tell, having been fed this dramatic irony.
Ryuhei’s addiction to horror is best appreciated from a creative point of view than the blood shedding. And this plays out in Downrange where the identity of the killer, is purpose or mission remain unknown. What does it matter? After all, not all criminals or evildoers live to tell the story.
With nonstop tension from start to finish, here’s another action thriller that is situated on a single scene; a lonely road in the middle of nowhere, where crime could have a field day without the mistake of an eye witness. Except for the birds and beasts of the forest.
The filmmaker is bowed by his creativity when he says: “While I’ve created single location films in the past, Downrange marks a new style of storytelling for me, wherein sustained, breathless terror in a singular location is what drives the entire plot. We’ve crafted a film in which is fueled by relentless dread, and are very excited to share it with horror and suspense to fans around the world.”
Starring Kelly Connaire, Stephanie Pearson, Rod Hernandez-Farella, Anthony Kirlew, Alexa Yeames, and Jason Tobias, Downrange beckons, albeit subtly, for mobile network signal and security presence in the hinterlands. Sometimes, this could help to know the devil and not just the evil.
