The crisis rocking Lagos State University (LASU) deepened yesterday as the management ordered the chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Isaac Oyewunmi and his deputy, Adebowale Suenu, to vacate the campus with immediate effect.
The university had dismissed the duo over alleged plot to cause breakdown of law and order and for gross misconduct. The institution’s Governing Council had last Thursday dismissed 15 academic and two non-academic staff for alleged extortion and falsification of students’ results.
Although Oyewunmi described his dismissal as political victimisation and vowed to clear his name, some ASUU members at its congress have asked the affected officials to step aside, which resulted in a free for all.
But the institution’s management in a statement by the Acting Head of Information, Adekoya Ademola, directed the dismissed officials to stay away from the university environment in the interest of peace.
“The university authority has received reports that some members of staff who were dismissed by the Governing Council for one misconduct or the other, have been coming into the university premises with the intent of causing violence and breakdown of law and order.
“The university authority hereby reiterates that all individuals who have been dismissed should stay away from the premises henceforth,” the statement reads.
