Nigerian University students would on the 18th of November recognize outstanding colleagues in an award tagged Nigerian Universities and Youth merit awards, the award which is scheduled to hold in University of Ibadan aims to celebrate excellence in Nigerian varsities.
The organizers of the awards recently unveiled final nominees for 22 categories.
Speaking with CAMPUSLIFE a member of the organizing committee olanrewaju oyedeji said “it is high time we recognized young outstanding Nigerian students who have made us proud in various varsities and this is the aim of the organizers”
He further said although there are challenges in the Nigerian varsity with strike actions and other minor disagreements, the need to encourage young students to do more in other fields like research, politics,Journalism and creative fields cannot be underemphasized.
The organizers also have unveiled plans to recognize National Assembly members who have supported Nigerian university students in the year 2017 through bills and activities.

Voting for this category will be enabled via The Nation Newspaper Twitter handle while voting can also be done by sending prefered national assembly member to nigerianunimeritaward@gmail.com to include why such member deserve the award and any evidenced work by such member.
On why the organizing body chose to reward National assembly members, Olanrewaju said “We need active laws in our varsities ,some persons have been in fore front of students agitation so recognizing them is not out of place so as to encourage them to do more”.
CAMPUSLIFE also learnt of the plan to recognize active Vice chancellors in the country.
The merit awards is endorsed by ANUNSA, National Union of campus Journalists, National Association of Nigerian campus Editors while a body known as IndexIdeas is behind its organization.
