Nigerian Medical Association says it will strive to promote sports medicine in the country. In a reaction to the Super Eagles win over Burkina Faso’s Stallions at the finals of the African Cup of Nations in South Africa on Sunday, the association said its commitment would also stretch to provide first aid services during competitions when called upon.
It is one of “[our] corporate social responsibilities to our fatherland in the area of sports development,” said the NMA in a statement.
NMA president, Dr Osahon Enabulele, praised the “brilliant performance of coach Stephen Keshi and his players.”
It is “another proof that what Nigerians, particularly political and public office officers, are looking for outside with needless foreign medical trips/medical tourism could be found in Nigeria, if we all responsibly act out our roles,” he said.
Osahon added that the Eagles’ win “opens another vista in the strident call on our leaders to always look inwards and search out the very efficacious remedies needed to pull out dear nation from her myriads of socio-political, economic and security woes.”
