Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has been forced to visit a specialist over his troublesome knee injury.
The 38-year-old has missed five games on the spin for the Premier League leaders, with his last appearance coming off the substitutes bench in a 4-1 win over Fulham in the FA Cup at Old Trafford.
However, manager Sir Alex Ferguson is confident the former England international will be back sooner rather than later, as the Red Devils push for trophies on three separate funds at the end of the season.
"Paul has had a little knee injury which we sent him to a specialist for. It is a little bit floating in the knee which he has had for many years,” Ferguson told the official Manchester United website.
"He will be back, though. It won't be too long. We are just managing it at the moment."
Scholes returned to the first-team fold at Manchester United back in January 2012, having originally retired from the game in the summer of 2011 after 18 seasons with the club.
A one-club man throughout his career, Scholes won ten Premier League titles, three FA Cups, two League Cups and two Champions League’s during his first stint under Ferguson, and will be hoping to add to that collection this time around
