Stadium to be named after Keshi
The Delta State Government has named the ultra-modern
Asaba Stadium after Stephen Keshi, following his guiding a relatively
inexperienced Nigerian team to victory at the Africa Cup of Nations. The Delta State Governor Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan made the
announcement at a reception organised for the victorious Super Eagles
team at the International Event Centre in Asaba, the State capital.
Keshi was also given a cash reward of N8-million and a duplex, while his assistant coaches Daniel Amokachi, Sylavnus Okpala, and Ike Shorunmu got N4-million each. The players where given N2.5-million each, however, members of the team who were current or former players of the state-owned Warri Wolves, like Sunday Mba, Fengor Ogude, Chigozie Agbim, AzuibikeEgwekwe, and Nosa Igiebor, were given N5-million each.
This is not the first time the Delta State government is naming a stadium after an ex-international. In 2008, they named the Ogwashi-Uku Stadium after former Super Eagles captain Austin 'Jay-Jay' Okocha.
