United star Nani has escaped unharmed after his Bentley smashed into bollards in a rush-hour crash in Stockport.
The 26-year-old’s top-of-the-range Bentley Continental careered into a central reservation at the junction of Gatley Road and Kingsway after colliding with a Ford Mondeo yesterday evening. It is believed the Portuguese international was travelling home to his £3m Wilmslow mansion from United’s Carrington training base when the crash occurred at 6.45pm.
Witnesses spotted the winger, still in his United training kit, as he was led into a police patrol car for questioning. One told the M.E.N: “I could see the Bentley had gone head-on into the bollards at the traffic lights and the car had been a bit bashed up at the front.“I wondered who was driving the Bentley and when I had a quick look in the police car Nani was there sat in all his United training gear.“He looked a bit shocked and it had created a bit of a scene as it is a very busy junction and there were three police cars there dealing with the incident.”
No-one was injured or arrested following the smash – and the £180,000 supercar was the only vehicle to suffer any damage.A GMP spokesman said there were no reports of any injuries.
The £17m star could still figure in United’s fifth-round FA Cup tie with Reading on Monday night having been left out of Sir Alex Ferguson’s squad for the crunch Champions League match with Real Madrid on Wednesday.
