CAF World Cup qualifying wrap: Ghana thump Sudan, Ethiopia win

Ghana defeated Sudan 4-0 in World Cup qualifying on Sunday, while Ethiopia remain unbeaten in Group A.
In a dominant display at Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, Kwesi Appiah's men struck twice in each half as they outclassed their visitors.

Asamoah Gyan put the hosts ahead on 19 minutes before Wakaso Mubarak doubled Ghana's advantage seven minutes before the break.

Abdul Waris ended any hope of a Sudan comeback on 79 minutes and Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu added polish to the scoreline when he struck with six minutes of the match remaining.

The result moves Ghana to within a point of top spot in Group D following leaders Zambia's 1-1 draw in Lesotho.

At Addis Ababa Stadium, Ethiopia made it two wins from three after beating bottom side Botswana 1-0.

Getaneh Kebede found the back of the net two minutes from time, handing the hosts victory and leaving them two points clear of second-placed South Africa.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Tanzania inflicted a damaging defeat on 10-man Morocco with a 3-1 win in Group C.

After a scoreless first half, Tanzania put the visitors to the sword courtesy of a 46th-minue goal from Thomas Ulimwengu and Mbwana Samata's brace.

Tanzania closed the gap on group leaders Ivory Coast to a solitary point, while Morocco remain winless on two points.

In Group H, Mali claimed a crucial 2-1 victory away to Rwanda at the Amahoro Stadium.

Rwanda opened the scoring in the 37th minute through a strike from Meddie Kagere but Mamadou Samassa of Serie A side Chievo equalised for the visitors five minutes into the second half, before Abdou Traore sealed their triumph five minutes later.

Mozambique and Guinea settled for a goalless stalemate in Maputo after both sides failed to make the most of their opportunities in their Group G encounter.

The Democratic Republic of Congo were held to a goalless draw at home to Libya in Kinshasa.

That stalemate has left Cameroon top of Group I following their 2-1 victory against Togo a day earlier.

Meanwhile, Anthony Laffor and Patrick Wleh got themselves on the scoresheet to earn Liberia a 2-0 victory over Uganda in Group J and Equatorial Guinea prevailed 4-3 against Cape Verde Islands in a thrilling Group B win.
