Andre Villas Boas had a bit of a scare on Thursday evening and could have been forgiven for thinking his recent Spurs dream was turning into a bit of a nightmare. Had Tottenham been knocked out of the Europa League then there's a danger that the knives could have come out for him again, with some in the English media probably still hurting because he's proven himself to be more than a laughing stock.Tottenham were 3-0 up from the first leg but found themselves in extra time in the San Siro as Inter Milan made an unlikely comeback. The Spurs manager spoke to Sky Italia after the game and the quotes have been widely picked up in the country.
Villas Boas used to be at Inter Milan with Mourinho before he left to take up management on his own in Portugal, and he obviously felt comfortable speaking to the media. When asked about his time at Chelsea, Villas Boas is quoted by Calcio News 24 as telling Sky "It's an extraordinary club suffering from huge media speculation, everything that happens in the dressing room comes out."
That may be a careless dropping of information by Villas Boas or could be a planned comment that he wanted to get out into the media. The Portuguese manager seemed largely undermined during his time with the London club and it's no secret that certain players in the Chelsea dressing room hold a lot of power.
The recent contract situation with Frank Lampard would suggest that Roman Abramovich is doing his best to break the power circle at the club and, though Villas Boas didn't name Lampard, if any players are leaking information routinely then it's certainly not a good thing for the football club.
Villas Boas was also asked about his future and that of Gareth Bale and is quoted by the same website as saying "Rumours? I am very happy at Tottenham, I want to stay here a long time, the same goes for Bale, I'm sure he will stay with us next year."
