Luis Suarez Welcomes Offers From Teams Competing In Champions League

Liverpool FC striker Luis Suarez has once again stated indicated that he would welcome offers from teams competing in the Champions League.

 

 

It seems like Brendan Rodgers’ biggest challenge this summer would be to retain the services of Uruguayan hotshot Luis Suarez. The 26-year-old, who has been in the form of his life, has provided several indications that he would ‘welcome’ offers from other European clubs.For a player of Suarez’s calibre, who is currently the top scorer in the Premier League and one of the contenders for winning the player of the season award, it is only but normal to crave for Champions League football, something with Liverpool, who are currently nine points behind the fourth spot in the table, are unlikely to provide next season. Also, the reported £20 million transfer budget for Rodgers next season means that the squad is unlikely to improve drastically as well.

 

Bayern Munich and Juventus have been closely monitoring Suarez’s situation at Liverpool and these two clubs are likely to make a move in the summer. In fact Suarez was earlier quoted in the German media stating that he is willing to listen if Bayern Munich makes an offer.

The former Ajax man has now once again hinted about his desire to play in the Champions League next season. In an interview, Suarez has admitted that it would be difficult for Liverpool to qualify for the top European competitions next season. The 26-year-old has also revealed that he would welcome any move by another club with ‘better prospect’ of competition in Europe.

“I am very happy at Liverpool but you never know in football.

“A player’s ambition is always there, the ambition of wanting to play in elite teams is always there.

“I’m in a world-class team, an elite team like Liverpool. We have to realise we have a new manager who is imposing a philosophy and a way of playing that the players are adapting to as best we can. We hope that it will bear fruit next year.

“If another team comes around with more prospects of competing in international club competition games, which is willing to have me, they are welcome.

“We would talk to the club, we would see if I want to go, if I don’t want to go.” – The Liverpool striker was quoted in press.

A move away from England also seems logical given the unjustified negative press he has received from the English media. The Uruguayan international has at times been unduly criticized by the fans and critics for diving, whereas British players with similar actions on the field have been given the benefit of doubt.

But it will be wrong to conclude that Suarez WILL leave this summer. The ball is in FSG’s court now, if the owner show enough ambition in the transfer market next summer, they might well be hold on to their most prized asset from foreign suitors. While Liverpool are looking to make gradual progress under Rodgers, losing Suarez will be a massive backward step for the club and its ambitions.
