Dortmund, Arsenal & Tottenham All Monitoring Cut Price Austrian International

Borussia Dortmund are the latest club to be linked with a summer move for Aston Villa’s Andreas Weimann. Dortmund join the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham and Inter Milan in having shown an interest in the Austrian according to The Express.

The 21-year-old who moved to Villa Park in 2007 from Rapid Wien, could be available for as little as £2.5 million. Weimann who can operate either on the wing or up front, has impressed in a struggling Villa side this season and has scored 11 goals in 30 appearances.

He is expected to leave this summer having turned down two new contract offers from the club and with 12 months left on his current deal Villa may want to cash in now rather than risk losing him on a free. The fact that Villa are currently in a relegation battle should also determine when Weimann decides to move on.

They are currently in 17th position, three points ahead of next placed Wigan (although they do have a game in hand on Villa) and if they do go down then it is highly unlikely Weimann will stick around to play in the Championship, knowing that he has a host of clubs to pick from to find a quick escape back to the top flight.

Dortmund will be in the market to try and find a replacement for current striker Robert Lewandowski, who is expected to move to either Manchester United or Bayern Munich at the end of the current season.

According to German Newspaper Bild, Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp and directors Michael Zorc and Hans-Joachim Watzke would all be in favour of a move for the Austrian international.
The fact that Weimann is on a reported £15,000 per week means that the Bundesliga club could easily offer him a large increase in wages and with a transfer fee of £2.5 million, signing the 21-year-old would be a low risk for the money involved
