Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is moving in on signing Benfica defender Ezequiel Garay in the summer, according to the Daily Mirror.
The Argentinean international looks set to leave Portugal at the end of the season with a number of European clubs chasing him.Garay signed up with ‘super-agent’ Jorge Mendes last month in pursuit of a move abroad after outgrowing Benfica.Mendes has overseen the moves of Nani, Cristiano Ronaldo, Bebe and Anderson to Old Trafford in the past few years and looks set to add Garay to his hit list.United will have to cough up £15million to secure the signing but with continuous worries over the fitness of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic this season, Ferguson looks adamant that he will bring in fresh faces in the summer.
Chris Smalling and Phil Jones are set to play bit-part roles once again as Ferguson wants experience at the heart of his table topping defence.
