Nigeria Escapes Through Gabon

Nigeria recorded a nerve-wracking 1-0 win over Gabon to keep alive their hopes of defending their Africa Youth Championship crown and qualification for the FIFA World Youth Championship which will hosted by Turkey later in the year.
Flying Eagles captain Abduljeleel Ajagun scored from the spot to put Nigeria ahead in the 20th minute after Gabon goalkeeper Rodolphe Ngouandzela brought down Kayode Olarenwaju inside the box.
Despite having a plethora of chances to wrap up the win, the Nigerians failed to improve on the scoreline as they continued their wastefulness in front of goal.
The win moved Nigeria up to second place in Group B with three points, while Gabon and DR Congo have a point apiece.
Group leaders Mali, who defeated Nigeria in their opening match, booked their passage to the semi-finals courtesy of their 2-1 win over DR Congo.
Nigeria will have to win their last group game against DR Congo on Saturday to ensure their safe passage into the next round.
