ROBIN VAN PERSIE could be in hot water after branding UEFA officials "cowards."
The Manchester United star also accused referee
Cuneyt Cakir, who sent off Nani during his side's Champions League exit
against Real Madrid earlier this month, of lacking the experience
needed for high-profile games.
Van Persie hit out as he prepared for Holland’s World Cup clash with Estonia tonight.
“The sending-off was completely unfair,” he said. “It was not even a
yellow card or a free-kick. Nani could not do anything about it. He
hardly touched Arbeloa.
“But then the ref pulled out his red card. The worst thing for me is that UEFA have supported him.
“I find that cowardly, and don’t understand it at all. Why don’t they say honestly, ‘He didn’t see the incident properly?’
“And they should simply pick the best referee there is. Above all I didn’t understand why they chose that guy for this game.
“He is such an unknown referee.”
Sir Alex Ferguson and Nani will have to wait until today to discover what punishments they will face from UEFA.
Nani
will definitely receive a one-match suspension while Ferguson is in hot
water after failing to attend the mandatory post-match press
conference, which could see him get a touchline ban.
