Arsene Wenger is certain his side can cope with a testing fixture schedule this month which could help shape Arsenal’s trophy ambitions. The Gunners sit top of the Premier League and are still in the hunt for the FA Cup and Champions League – all competitions in which they face crucial games in February.

They begin with a trip to Anfield to face fourth placed Liverpool, knowing a victory could send them temporarily five points clear ahead of Chelsea and Manchester City at the summit. It is the first of two games in eight days against the Reds with a fifth round FA Cup clash at the Emirates on the 16th.

That comes either side of a the visit to north London of league champions Manchester United, whose own defence already looks over as they languish in seventh spot, 15 points off the pace.
Arsenal then host European kings Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 clash.

Wenger said: “When you’re in a good position to fight for something, the closer it gets to the end the more vital [it is].

“In the cup games it’s decisive but in the Premiership every point is important.

“It’s a massive month for us but we’ll enjoy it. We have fought very hard until now to be in this position so let’s just enjoy and give our best, and I’m sure we will.”
He added: “I am convinced that we are mentally prepared. We have shown a great response throughout the season when we have difficulties and we’ve always responded well.”

Jack Wilshere could return from an ankle injury for the trip to Anfield on Saturday and the manager added: “Physically, we are prepared as well [but] it depends on how many injuries we have because we need to rotate. It’s important that we have as many players available as we can.
“Now, big injuries question the end of the season.”
