APC, LP members defect to PDP in Ondo
No fewer than 1, 500 members of the All Progressives Congress and the Labour Party in Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo Local Government Areas in Ondo State on Friday defected to the Peoples Democratic Party.
Most of the defectors, who were from the APC, claimed they defected because of the shoddy manner with which the local government and ward congresses of the PAC were conducted.
The leader of the APC defectors, Mr. Benjamin Akinbobola, who is the head of the Independent Campaign Group, a faction of the APC, alleged that chaos prevailed during the congress of the party.
He described the PDP as the most democratic party in the country and boasted that thousands of other APC members in other local governments who had yet to defect, would join the PDP soon.
He said, “I was in the APC and during last congress at ward and local levels but it was not conducted properly. There will always be intra party squabbles but it must not go to the extent of killing.
“Here in Ile Oluji/Oke-Igbo Local Government, we the members of the Independent Campaign Group, acted maturely but members of other groups came with machetes and guns to intimidate us. The APC leadership in the state refused to address the problem that is why we left.
“Over a 1,000 of us from this local government have defected. Many more will defect in other local governments because there are no real politicians in the APC.”
The Chairman of the PDP in Ondo State, Mr. Ebenezer Alabi, said over 2,000 people had signed the registry, accepting to defect to the PDP. He promised the new members that they would be treated fairly and urged those in other parties to feel free to join his party.” d out of their own love for us,” he said.
