Italian giants Juventus remain keen to sign Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra this summer, even though the France international penned a one-year contract extension at Old Trafford last month.
This information comes courtesy of respected Sky Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, who reports that Juventus intermediaries are working hard behind the scenes to resurrect a potential deal.
United boss Louis van Gaal wants the 33-year-old to stay, despite acquiring the services of England international Luke Shaw on Friday, but Juve are prepared to offer the player a lucrative two-year contract and the opportunity to continue playing Champions League football.
Juventus face uphill battle for Evra
Juventus were strongly linked with Evra before the veteran full-back opted to sign a new contract with the Red Devils in May. Some reports even claimed he had undergone a medical with the Turin-based club.
But have the Serie A outfit missed their chance to secure his services? Their task is undoubtedly made all the harder by the fact Evra is now contracted to Manchester United for the next 12 months. Furthermore, Van Gaal wants both Shaw and Evra to be part of his squad for the forthcoming campaign.
Negotiations to recommence?
Juventus are currently unsure whether Manchester United have any desire to negotiate over Evra. But an update over the situation is expected to come over the coming days.
The closer we get to the start of the 2014/15 campaign, the less likely the Red Devils are to sell the left-back. However, Manchester United have been tipped to make a move for Ajax left-back Daley Blind - and the chance to get Evra off the wage bill could allow him to make a move for the Netherlands international this summer.
