Our client is a leading aerospace company based in Camberley. They are looking for an R&D Chemist/Engineer, with experience in resin technology, to join their R&D Team on a permanent basis.

In this role you will support and improve all curing activities whilst developing new materials and resin systems to reduce cycle time and/or enhance performance.


Key Authorities and Responsibilities:
- Design, develop and test new processes, materials and resin systems to reduce cycle time whilst improving/maintaining performance
- Introduce and present World class leading research and development techniques to support the application of patents
- Capability to provide best practice composite processing methods and problem solving and to provide hands on instruction on current/future composite curing techniques and practices
- Implementation of methods supporting bid cost requirements
- To create and provide work instructions for new projects prior releasing to the shop floor. So that production staff have a complete method of manufacture at the beginning of making a new part
- Where required, create prototype composite parts to ensure methods of manufacture are efficient and to the required standard
- To assess tooling requirements for new programmes for the robust and efficient methods of manufacture. Approach vendors for quotations and procure tooling to meet budget if required
- Responsible for ensuring the manufacturing areas are at the highest possible ergonomic layout for efficient composite manufacturing and assemblies in line with takt time adherence
- Confirm make versus buy strategy with Production Engineering and Operation management
- To work in parallel with scheduling and support the delivery of parts through the curing cell
- Upon definition and if required, provide day plans for new and repeatable programmes to production in line with BAAN system planning's. The production team will use day plans for completing on time in full
- Where necessary, to provide backup to Planning Engineering for inputting and generating the necessary bills of material information into the (BaaN) MRP to drive the procurement of materials
- Signatory for manufacturing and process on engineering drawings to ensure drawings provide correct and understandable information and best methods of manufacture where required


Ideal Experience and Qualifications:
- PhD in Chemistry/Materials Science
- Epoxy resin R&D experience
- Production Engineering experience
- Composites background
- Lean manufacture in aerospace or automotive
- Organisation of lean manufacture workshops
- Knowledge of composite design and manufacturing methods
