Chelsea winger Mo Salah could be forced to return to his home country to undertake military service according to reports coming from Egypt.
The player had been granted the opportunity to leave Egypt and skip the otherwise mandatory military service by taking part in an education program, but that has now been rescinded.
Salah is said to be stunned by the decision and now the Egyptian FA are speaking to the education minister in order to work out a solution to allow Salah to continue his promising career as a footballer.
It is not known whether Chelsea would have anticipated such a scenario possibly arising when they signed Salah, but should the worst happen he could be unable to leave Egypt for 1 – 3 years until he completes his military service.
It is likely Salah will eventually be exempted as he is an extremely promising hope for the country’s national football team and a potentially good ambassador for the country in general. It is expected he will eventually be exempted from the national service, but if not, it could force Chelsea back into the transfer market if they feel they need to replace Salah for the coming season.
Blues boss Jose Mourinho has declared the clubs summer transfer work complete, but even he would acknowledge that in football everything can change, and even something as far from your thoughts as the Egyptian military can ruin your best laid plans.
