Jos — A community health expert with the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), Dr. Amina Muhammad, has said that Nigeria is among four countries of the world with the highest malaria cases.
Dr. Muhammad, who spoke during this year's annual sensitisation lecture on 'War Against Malaria' campaign organised by Islamic Counselling Initiatives of Nigeria (ICIN), a Jos-based community organisation, said the scourge has affected half of the world's population, with 90 per cent of it in Africa. Flagging off the programme which was held at Anguwan Rogo community of Jos-north, ICIN President, Hajiya Fatima Suleiman, said the organization in conjunction with NASCO Company, targeted the community due to its vast population.
While demonstrating how to prevent mosquitoes from surviving in a household and how best to make use of treated insecticide nets, senior community health consultant with JUTH, Dr. Zuwira Ibrahim Hassan, enjoined the public to ensure clean environments. Mosquito nets were distributed to over 700 people while the event also featured free tests, counselling as well as distribution of drugs.
