British backpacker knifed man who slit her throat and tried to sexually assault her

A British woman traveling in Australia fended off a man who slashed her neck open and tried to sexually assault her.
The backpacker, 23, was allegedly stabbed by the man repeatedly before fending him off with a knife on Wednesday, Sydney police say.
Her attacker is suspected to be her a 27-year-old Mexican national.
When the man allegedly attacked the young woman, he slashed her neck open with a knife - narrowly missing an artery, police said.
It is believed she momentarily broke free from him and grabbed a knife to defend herself.
She stabbed her attacker in the chest and he managed to escape before police arrived at the scene, it was claimed.
Police found the man two blocks away from the house and arrested him.
Terrified witnesses described seeing a girl in a towel with blood on her.

Det Insp Fitzgerald said: "'We appeal for any female or male to keep themselves safe, especially when they're travelling and sharing accommodation with people they don't know that well.
"It's just lucky it (the knife) didn't hit a major artery in those alleged attacks, and for him as well."
