Senate to test DSS assault, welcome captured judges

The Senate has chosen to test the attack on the places of a few judges and their captures by the Department of State Services.

                         

The choice comes six days after the House of Representatives chose to test the occurrence.

The House had on Thursday a week ago summoned the Director General of the DSS to the chamber to clarify why the mystery benefit attacked their homes and captured them.

The Senate, which had prior denounced the activity, on Wednesday chose to welcome the influenced judges for further examination concerning the matter.

The judges are Justice John Okoro and Justice Sylvester Nguta of the Supreme Court; Justice Namdi Dimgba and Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court, Abuja; Kabiru Auta, FHC, Kano; Muazu Pindiga, FHC, Gombe; and a previous Chief Judge of Enugu State, Innocent Umezulike.

The judges are to show up before the Senate Committee on Judiciary,

Human Rights and Legal Matters to give answers to specific inquiries from the Senate.

Agents of the DSS had attacked the homes of the judges between the late hours of October 7 and early hours of October 8, 2016, and

captured them for claimed debasement.

The Chairman of the board, Senator David Umaru, made the test known amid the whole on Wednesday.

He said the board would chip away at the report by the National

Legal Council on the issue.
