Genesis Cinema, last Sunday, was a beehive of activities as artistes turned out in the numbers to support feature film debutant, and award winning filmmaker, Oluseyi Asurf as he premiered his first feature film, Hakkunde.
Shot in Lagos and the northern city of Kaduna, Hakkunde is an intriguing story of a young graduate who battles everything including love, family, discrimination, drug abuse, tradition and insecurity. It follows his journey to self-discovery and actualization.
The story is characterized by actions and reactions that define the everyday Nigerian society, with its ups and downs and with a particular focus on the life of a job hunting graduate, Akande, who finds himself in the search for a better life.
Welcoming guests to the premiere which was screened in two cinema halls, Asuf expressed excitement, especially given that Hakkunde is his first feature length film.
“It is the story of a jobless graduate. This is the first time in my career that I had the opportunity to just go out there and do my thing. I had no knowledge about northern Nigeria before I shot this movie but it turned out to be a wonderful experience for me. I’m so proud of my team; they all worked very hard to make this possible,” he said.
The film was written by Asurf Oluseyi, Tomi Adesina and Gift Imafidon.
Among entertainers who graced the premiere were, Yaw, AY Comedian, Yvonne Jegede and her husband, Abounce, Judith Audu, Sambasa Nzeribe, Toyin Abraham, and others.
In 2016, Asurf won the best short film at AMVCA with his film, A Day with Death. He also won NEA best short film with Hell or High Water.
