There’s a new money-related belt on the scene.
At the final Conor McGregor-Floyd Mayweather news conference, World Boxing Council president Mauricio Sulaiman introduced the “Money Belt,” a new custom, blinged-out title that will be presented to the winner of this megafight.
There wasn’t anything originally on the line — outside of pride — during Saturday’s super welterweight bout, but here comes the WBC to the rescue.
“This belt has 3,360 diamonds, 600 sapphires, 300 emeralds, 1.5 kilograms of solid, 24-karat gold, and alligator leather that comes from Italy,” Sulaiman explained to the media at the MGM Grand Hotel.
That poor alligator.
This isn’t the first time the WBC has created a ridiculous, gaudy belt just because. You might remember the 2015 monstrosity Sulaiman and the WBC created for the Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao fight.
According to For the Win, it featured 3,017 emeralds, 800 grams of gold and 165 hand-painted flags. It was reportedly valued at $1 million.
