These Nigerian Creative Will Inspire You!

Nigerian creatives are bursting through the seams with positive energy that is being recognised globally. It is truly a tough time being a creative with the current economic situation but a change in perception, location, and sheer determination seem to have helped Laolu Sebanjo, Adebayo Oke-Lawal and Mayowa Nicholas as they celebrate global recognition for their craft this month.
At the risk of sounding like a Nigerian commercial, e fit be you o!

Laolu NYC X Bvlgari

Laolu Sebanjo certainly grabbed our attention when he featured his body art – The Sacred Art of the Ori in Beyonce’s Lemonade visual video for the track Sorry. He has gone on to collaborate with Nike on a limited edition of Air Max and right now has done it again with luxury designer Bvlgari. The artist’s latest collaboration with Bvlgari is a limited edition perfume called Man in Black Essence. We can’t help but wonder who he’d be collaborating with next.

The New Victoria Secret Angel

Mayowa Nicholas has been selling the Nigerian dream since she won the Elite Model Look Nigeria in  2014. She has gone on to become the face of Calvin Klein, appeared in campaigns for Dolce & Gabanna and Saint Laurent. Certainly not stopping there, she has walked the runway for brands like Chanel, Margiela, Céline, Hermès, Prada, Lisa Folawiyo, Elie Saab, Loewe, Balmain, and Christian Dior. She’s easily one of the most sought after model in the world right now and we are sure that’s why she is only the second Nigerian model (after Oluchi) EVER to walk at the Victoria Secret Fashion Show which she’d be doing this year.

Lupita Nyong’o in Orange Culture

We are always super excited when celebs wear Nigerian designers, but it’s always a thing of pride and joy when these celebs are not from Nigeria and recognise the genius that is Nigeria (in all it’s entirety). It can only mean we are heading in the right direction. That was the case when we saw Lupita in Orange Culture ss17 oversized scuba tee while hanging with her squad at AFROPUNK over the weekend.
