My deputy would be governor in 2018, says Ayo Fayose

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has expressed confidence that his deputy, Prof. Kolapo Olusola-Eleka would be the next governor.

Fayose stated this in Ado-Ekiti yesterday during a thanksgiving service by the deputy governor to mark his endorsement.

He said: “The emergence of Olusola-Eleka as my deputy was divine. He never lobbied to be one. He was just a lecturer in the university enjoying what he was doing. I proposed to have his father whom I knew to be a politician as my deputy, but Kolapo emerged in a divine manner.

“We all say we are God’s people and I have earlier declared that I was relying on God to choose a successor for me. I know it was a divine project and those who are in doubt should wait to see how it would end. Power comes from God and He gives it willingly.”

He said it was not true that he was deliberately promoting his deputy above other interests, adding: “When we do God’s will, there is no need for fear. We are going to that promised land, because it is God’s project that won’t fail.”

The governor said he was aware that some aspirants were strategisisng against the party’s decision, adding that they would fail woefully.

Fayose stressed that he would even allow them to hold their meetings at the Government House, because he was sure that God would throw a political bomb in their midst to scatter them.

The governor dismissed the notion that Olusola-Eleka does not have his type of charisma that endeared him to the people.

He, however, appealed to the aspirants to remain calm, saying there was no way all of them could have been given a ticket that was meant for one person.

Meanwhile, the Deputy National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the south, Mr. Segun Oni has asked the aggrieved aspirants to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He asked the aspirants, including the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dayo Adeyeye and Senator Biodun Olujimi to freely join the APC, promising that they would be given a level-playing field.

Oni, who spoke in Ifaki Ekiti yesterday, commended the conveners of Yoruba Summit, which was held on Wednesday in Oyo State.

He said the blueprint reached at the summit would guide other ethnic groups, on the issue of restructuring.

“Again, the fact that Yoruba people asked for a regional system of government was also specific enough. So, I want to join other geo-political zones to emulate this,” he said.
