Chris Powell hinted that he could be active in the final days of the January transfer window after watching his side slide to a late defeat at the hands of Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

Reda Johnson and Swansea loanee Leroy Lita struck in the last six minutes as the Owls plundered three points at The Valley despite the hosts appearing comfortable after Johnnie Jackson’s opening goal.Powell insists the defeat won’t force panic buys but he remains open to the idea of doing business before the window closes on Thursday, saying some Addicks squad players could be sent out on loan.

“I’ll have to wait and see if one or two players become available,” he said. “And also there might be one or two of our fringe players possibly going out to get some football as well.“But we’ll have to wait and see. I can say no and then all of a sudden I’ll bring in loads of players and vice-versa.“It’s just a case of me seeing if anything can improve us and if we can financially do it.”

Although he is on the lookout for new additions, Powell was quick to praise his current set of players after the defeat against Wednesday.“I’m sure people will be thinking because we lost a game today it’s time to get new blood in but my squad have done particularly well,” he said.“They are a good bunch of players. They’ve done really well this month.“It’s just a shame we couldn’t finish off the month in a positive way.”
