Manchester City's fading title hopes have suffered another
setback after Sergio Aguero was ruled out of Saturday's trip to Everton.Aguero has failed to recover from the knee injury that kept
him out of the last two games and City have given their striker permission to
fly home to Buenos Aires to be treated by Argentina's medical staff following
his call-up for the World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Bolivia.
Sergio Aguero has joined the Argentina squad early to work on his recovery from a knee injury
Captain Vincent Kompany, out for nearly two months due to
calf injuries, only has a 50-50 chance of being fit for the game at Goodison
Park as City try to cut Manchester United's 12-point lead at the top of the
table. They face an Everton side who have won eight of the last 11
meetings between the two clubs, but defender Joleon Lescott is confident Carlos
Tevez will once again make up for the loss of Aguero.
Although Tevez was charged with driving while disqualified
earlier this week, he is in a rich vein of form after scoring the winner in
City's last league game at Aston Villa and a hat-trick against Barnsley in the
FA Cup.Lescott, a £22million signing from Everton in 2009, said:
'His performance doesn't surprise me, to be honest. He has been our most
consistent player since I joined the club.'In his first two years he carried the team on his back. We
won a lot of games by one goal, and that was down to Carlos. When he plays like
that he is unplayable.'
Crocked: Aguero hasn't appeared for City since their 2-0 victory over Chelsea last month
