Arsenal Ladies Qualify For Champions Leauge Semi Final Over Italian Side

Arsenal Ladies moved a step closer to May's Champions League final at Stamford Bridge after they completed a quarter-final triumph over Italian side ASD Torres in Sardinia.

Leading 3-1 from the home leg, Arsenal beat ASD Torres by a single goal in the Stadio Vanni Sanna, to seal a 4-1 aggregate success.Irish defender Niamh Fahey scored the only goal of the second-leg after four minutes, converting from close range after Ellen White had helped on Rachel Yankey's corner.

With the incentive of the final being played in London, Arsenal resisted second-half pressure from the Italian Serie A champions to clinch their semi-final place. To reach the May 23 final at Chelsea, Arsenal must find a way past German side Wolfsburg or Russian team Rossiyanka, who hold a 2-1 lead from the quarter-final first leg.

The semi-finals will be played over two legs in April with Arsenal attempting to make it third time lucky following defeats at the same last-four stage to Frankfurt and Lyon in the last two seasons.
Arsenal forward Gemma Davison said: "The final being in London makes it an extra incentive to get there. It would be great to be in the final in your own country, and the fact it's at Chelsea's ground. They are a massive team in England and obviously it's a massive incentive for us."
