The Spanish press have been huge on the Courtois loan extension over the past few days. It's almost like they know anything they write will end up in newspapers here 24 hours later and then put pressure on Chelsea to give the Spanish club and Belgian player what they want.Atletico want his loan extending to the summer of 2014 and the player himself has spoken out about how keen he is to stay with the La Liga side as they prepare to qualify for the Champions League next season, providing him with more experience in his young but already packed career.
Today's AS features him on part of the front page again and inside has a column all about his move. Given how much AS have covered on this and quotes they've had from him, it's safe to assume that what's in the column is what the Belgian goalkeeper wants to be known. Journalist Juan Casanez says that Courtois is worried about his World Cup chances and that a return to Chelsea would ruin them. He's not nailed on to be Belgium's goalkeeper at the tournament, if his country qualify, and if he's not getting regular games and Simon Mignolet is then it's the latter who would take the gloves.
The anxiety about this situation is one of the things which is driving Courtois to push for the situation to be sorted out quickly. He and Atletico want it confirming before the end of the season rather than waiting until the summer to sort things out, and they're putting repeated pressure on Chelsea through the media. According to AS, and this isn't the first time they've said this, he doesn't want to go on loan to an English club, despite that being Chelsea's initially preferred plan.
