Manchester United are looking at the possibility of acquiring FC Porto winger James Rodriguez, according to reports.
The Daily Mail claims it is thought that the Red Devils could even use players as part-exchange in order to secure the Colombian’s services this summer.
Candidates
Midfielders Nani and Anderson are potential candidates in this exchange which could tempt the Portuguese outfit into selling their prized asset.Rodriguez has been at the club since 2010 following his move from Argentinian side Banfield and has already made 10 appearances for his national side, scoring twice.
The 21-year-old is a versatile midfielder and can play in any position across the middle which is sure to have appealed to Man Utd boss Sir Alex Ferguson. In his time at Porto, he has found the net on 28 occasions in 91 appearances despite being his position, while his release clause is £36million.
This possibility shows Man Utd’s intent to sign the man, considering the fee the club stumped up for Anderson, which was believed to be around £20million at the time.
Return
The Brazilian has also admitted to the possibility of returning to the club he left to move to the Premier League. He said, as reported by the Daily Mail: “Porto are the one club I would consider moving back to Portugal for.“My past is there. It is where I put down my roots in Portuguese football.”It seems increasingly likely that the 24-year-old will be on his way out of Old Trafford this summer, having found it tough to hold down a starting spot in the side since his arrival in 2007.
