At least eight dead after explosion at Nigerian college

At least eight people have been killed and at least a dozen more have been injured after an explosion at a medical school in Kano, Nigeria on Monday.

BBC News noted Kano State police spokesman Magaji Majiya, confirmed the eight deaths and said several others have been taken to a hospital to receive treatment for serious injuries.

Reuters reported that authorities have said that one suspect was apprehended and his vehicle has been seized for investigation.

The blast went off near a popular area where students gather on the School of Hygiene’s campus.

So far, no one has claimed responsibility for the attack, but the school matches two of Boko Haram’s targets of education and Western medicine.

Boko Haram is the same extremist group that garnered international attention after they kidnapped more than 200 schoolgirls last April from the Government Girls Secondary School inChibok, Borno State.

U.S. drones and experts are among foreigners assisting in the search to rescue the girls who are still missing.
