Chelsea are ready to complete the signing of Tiago Mendes from Atletico Madrid, with the Portuguese veteran set to sign a two-year deal at Stamford Bridge.
Tiago has been in talks with the Chelsea all summer after seeing his contract run down at Vicente Calderon, making him a free agent and leaving him free to return to his former club eight years after leaving.
Tiago looks set to one of a number of Atletico players coming into the club, withAS reporting that he has been working as a double agent within the realms of the Spanish Liga champions, convincing the likes of Diego Costa and Filipe Luis to make summer switches to Chelsea.
The duo are currently mulling over offers to move to London after Chelsea met the release clauses for both players as they look to strengthen their squad after ending the 2013/14 season without any silverware, with both expected to line up for Jose Mourinho next season.
Mourinho and Tiago hold a happy relationship from their time together at Stamford Bridge in the Portuguese tactician’s first spell in charge of the Blues, and that has contributed heavily to him turning down more lucrative offers from the United Arab Emirates, to sign a two-year deal with Chelsea with a view to a coaching role at the club in the future.
