Manchester United's Nani speaks for first time since red card and is full of hope for Portugal

Manchester United's Nani hasn't spoken since he got a red card against Real Madrid in the Champions League. Well, not spoken publicly, we hope he's been talking in private and not been stunned into muteness by the rash sending off!

He's given an interview to FPF which is the Portuguese FA and it's about how annoyed he was to miss out on the last World Cup through injury. He said at the time he told everyone he would come back stronger and he believes he has, but he's been further held back by injury on occasion since.
Nani thinks Portugal can still qualify top of their group and said "There are still many games, a lot can happen. We have to win our games and I believe that our direct opponents can slip and allow us to reach first place."

Qualification isn't nailed on for Portugal and they're currently third in their group behind Israel and Russia, which has inevitably led to a lot of criticism. On rumours that there has been trouble within the Portuguese camp, Nani said that there are no serious problems but, like any squad, there are disagreements occasionally."For the success of a group it is important that we all get along, there is joy in the squad. On that aspect our team is to be congratulated. Of course, sometimes there are disagreements, but it never lasted more than a few minutes or hours, that is normal and healthy."
Nani went on to explain that the support he gets from the Portuguese crowd really helps him and spurs him on to do well. At Old Trafford he's often greeted by audible irritation from the stands when he makes a mistake but a nice side effect of the rash red appears to be that fans are backing him more, for a limited period anyway.
