The newest elite dining spot in VI is Backyard Grill.
It’s a little out of the way as its name suggests – tucked away on Musa Yar’adua. In a modern villa look, it has a lush ‘backyard’ – with comfortable and generous seating.
During the day it is the housewives’ favourite (especially for expats) for its international and accessible menu and elegant surroundings. Carved wood benches, floor to ceiling windows and scrumptious cocktails. They also have a well-stocked bakery at the back with bread and delicious-looking cakes for all occasions.
In the evenings it is the turn of the young and restless to enjoy some chilled pre-party drinks on the lawn. It’s not a party atmosphere, it’s outdoor and quite relaxed but still with the social frisson of people watching.
During this week it was a privilege to experience both a daytime lunch and their evening outdoor vibes complete with chill-out music and shisha.
For lunch, I opted for the skewers as a starter and the lamb chops with vegetables as a main course as well as a passion fruit mojito.
The mojito had a hint of passion fruit – probably from a syrup. If you’re looking for a real passion fruit cocktail, the best place is probably RSVP bar in VI.
The skewers were succulent and well-seasoned, bursts of flavour coming through.
The main dish arrived. It’s almost impossible for lamb to go wrong and while the dish didn’t reinvent the concept, it didn’t disappoint either. I would definitely order this again for a hearty and fairly-priced lunch with friendly, attentive servers.
Price list
Mojito – 3500
